Amidst the turbulent weather in mid-February, over thirty UK-based Members of the IUCN family welcomed the organisation's President Zhang Xinsheng at a reception hosted at London Zoo by IUCN Members the Zoological Society of London (ZSL) and the British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquaria (BIAZA). The President was accompanied by Vice President John Robinson and both spent time talking with Members individually over lunch before answering a round of questions in open forum.

This was a very special occasion which gave those attending, from Chief Executives to interns, a chance to talk in person with one of the most significant influencers for nature conservation in the world. President Zhang was visiting London to attend the previous day's meeting on Illegal Wildlife Trade stimulated by HRH Prince Charles. He expressed a particular interest in meeting with UK Members to hear what they thought of IUCN and to hear of their conservation activities. At the end of the meeting it was joined by Simon Stuart, Chair of the IUCN Species Survival Commission and members attending the Amphibian Survival Alliance meeting also being held at London Zoo at the same time. Members were then treated to a behind-the-scenes tour of conservation work being carried out at the zoo.

Feedback from attendees has been very positive with a request for more opportunities for similar networking amongst IUCN Members in the UK. Thanks are due to ZSL and BIAZA for their support in enabling this event to take place.
